Jean Jacobs Child Advocacy Center

A SETTLEMENT HOUSE FOR THE CHILD ADVOCACY MOVEMENT

Jean Jacobs Child Advocacy Center

In 1998, Coleman purchased a 7000 square foot building (formerly a church and religious school) in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, the neighborhood with the highest density of public school students, as well as the fewest family services. The Excelsior District is surrounded by Bayview Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, the Mission, Noe Valley, Glen Park, and the OMI - the corridor where most San Francisco families now live.

We are creating one of the nation's first community-based child advocacy centers. We envision the center as a permanent hub for parent and youth leadership training, neighborhood organizing, inter-agency planning, and advocacy and public education on behalf of children, youth and their families.

The center provides office and program space for Coleman, as well as space for a Head Start Center operated by Mission Neighborhood Centers, the Excelsior Family Resource Center operated by Portola Family Connections, and fledgling child advocacy groups on an as needed basis. Currently, the offices of YouthSpace are in the building.

The building is fully accessible, with a children's play yard, as well as a large meeting space that can seat up to 150 people, and a fully equipped with a kitchen. Space is available for community use, as well as for rent by organizations throughout the city. It is one of the few meeting and conference centers in San Francisco which can also provide child care, thus furthering our goal of increasing parent involvement in civic activity.

RENTAL RATES AND CONDITIONS:

The space is available for use by non-profits, neighborhood groups, and neighbors. Use by others is also possible if available. Rental rates will be determined on an individual basis by contacting our Director of Administration. A refundable deposit of $250 is required before the space is rented. If the spaces are maintained and kept as they are found prior to the event/meeting, the Owner will return the deposit check to the Renter. Please read "Building Check List" below to make sure the deposit will be refunded to you.

For more info contact our Director of Administration at (415) 239-0161 extension 10.
